Anakin’s eyes shoot open as he looks around. The last thing he recalls was staring at his son's face as the Death Star exploded all around him. Now he awakens on a coarse, rough substance that gets all over his clothes.

But as he sits up and shakes the sand off his cloak, Anakin glances around at his surroundings. He is in a sea of sand as far as the eye can see while twin suns glare at him from the sky. His expression darkens.

Anakin: Either I’m on Tatooine, or hell.

Anakin watches as the gunship takes off, leaving him alone in the hangar to make sense of everything that is happening. Part of him wants to warn Mace about Palpatine and insist that he go with them. The chancellor is more dangerous than they could imagine. But at the same time, Mace speaks with such iron certainty that he almost believes him. Almost.

Instead, he tries to take his mind off this development by meditating. He makes his way over to the Council Chambers and closes his eyes.

As Anakin watches Mortis fade away, the memories the planet left him continue to play in his head, the worst among them being the ‘gift’ left by the son. He closes his eyes and tries to shake the images away, but the screams of the younglings and the hateful cries of Obi-Wan continue to run through his mind.

He can still hardly believe everything he saw. How far he’s fallen, how far the Republic’s fallen and all at the hands of one man. One whose identity continues to elude him.
