Daryl Gene Holmberg was born May 31st, 1946, in Norfolk, NE to Oscar and LaRoyce (Marr) Holmberg. He graduated from Madison Public School in 1964. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1964-1968.
On June 20, 1970, he married Patricia Ave at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoskins, NE. He worked for Nebraska Game & Parks as Park Superintendent for 41 years and graduated from Certified Law Enforcement in 1991. After retirement they moved to Schuyler to be closer to their children. He worked part time with Brueggers Trucking, Schuyler Golf Club as grounds keeper, Rocheford Farms, and Schuyler Coop over the years.
Daryl was involved with Malcolm Fire Department from 1981 to 1996 and held various duties in the department, including Fire Chief, Malcolm School Board, Nebraska State Snowmobile Association from 1979-present, serving in various offices, Schuyler City Council from 2015 to 2024 and was a member of The American Legion and VFW.
Every year Daryl took numerous snowmobile trips with friends to places like Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota and Minnesota, his last trip in 2024. He also spent years traveling to Sisseton, SD to fish with his cousin and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada as well. His pride and joy was his lawn and garden. He would spend countless hours and always had an abundance of produce he shared with friends and the Senior Center. Family was everything to him, he always helped his kids and grandkids in any way that he could. You could find Daryl most mornings at Parkview having coffee with a group of friends.
He is survived by wife Patty of Schuyler, two daughters Michelle (Brad) Carlson of York, Shari (Todd) Bailey of Schuyler, three grand-children Tyson and Angelica Bassett of York, Kaylea Bailey and fiancé Levi Janousek of Clarkson, one great-grandchild Macy of York, one sister Lynda (Gary) Hellbusch of Columbus, one niece Rhonda (Robert) Brandt of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Jeffrey Hellbusch.
