Me and classmate Adam Ogburn visit the East Austin Barbershop and talk with customers and barbers about the sporting atmosphere at the location. Historically known in the black community, a barbershop is a place of bonding and a meeting place of community. This location does all of this in a small setting and the people there are enjoyable and a joy to be around. Instantly we felt like part of the community.
This time I break down comedian and activist Dick Gregory. I explain his passion and impact on the comedy. I bring up how he uses the issues of the black community in his works and relate it in a humorous way. I share my views on him and his importance plus show why he was bigger than a comic.
Starting off with an analysis of African American comedians dealing with political issues in their stand up. The first episode focuses on Richard Pryor as I break down how he deals with topics like the relationship between the black community the police, his views on religion and his critique of capitalism.
