Data Action Golf with Dr. Aaron R. Stewart

Wow!!  We crunched the numbers, weighted the data based on the information out of Royal Port Rush, recent trends, history, and have come up with a lock for the winner of the 2019 British Open. I'm thinking about taking a quick trip to Vegas! Trying to come up with the right formula to predict an unpredictable game, especially one being played at a new venue for most the players, and a links course is impossible, but we did our best! And we learned some very cool stuff along the way. Let's tee it up!

Well, its the final major, it's Brooks Koepka, and it's a bit of controversy. Brooks Koepka has been coming out of his shell and sharing more and more about himself. With each major he seems to be more comfortable with who he is, and could care less and less what anyone else thinks about it. IT IS AWESOME! Brooks had more to say in his press conference, and I couldn't stop laughing. Are there some things the USGA could learn from the R&A... Don't get me started, but there is one major glaring differences in the two governing bodies, and the R&A has always been on the right side of this one. Let's Tee It Up!

Dylan Frittelli gets a big win at the John Deere Classic and wins the opportunity to fly back over and plan again across the pond at the British Open. We don't know much about Dylan, but we will. He is an overnight success, that took decades in the making. A great story and a great win. Welcome to Data Monday, where we crunch the numbers and see how they compare to our performance benchmarks! Let's tee it up!

The year is closing quickly, way quickly if you ask me. We have only have two full-field PGA Tour events, a major, The British Open, and a World Golf Championship and that is it for the 2018-2019 regular season. That is so hard to believe. And with the changes to the tour schedule, there are many players, who we know and love, who are going to be on the outside looking in, if they don't have a perfect couple of weeks. And the new faces from the KF Tour are a bunch of fresh new faces. The PGA Tour is going to get weird in a hurry. Let's tee it up!

That was one of the best finishes of the year. What a big win for Matthew Wolff, only playing in his 3rd PGA Tour event as a pro. Incredible. On this data Monday we will take a look at Matthew's stats and see where he got it done this week. Also, should amateurs swing like Matt? Is his unorthodox swing motion one we should try? Let's tee it up!

Bryson DeChambeau is playing well again, and he tried to withhold what part of his game he's working on, but does he not realize he is on TV? Pretty easy to pick out what is different in his swing.  Matt Wolf seems to be playing "well" or is he, and can he depend on that unique swing of his? Hideki has supposedly fixed his putting woes with a narrower stance?!? Is that seriously all it takes? And did Brooks Koepka tell us just recently he doesn't like to complain?!? Oh boy! Lots to discuss. Let's tee it up!

In the golf world, we have been talking about Michelle Wie since she was ten years old. She was going to be the female Tiger Woods and dominate the game for years to come. At 13 she could hit her driver 320 yards, no one had a chance, the LPGA was going to be her playground, and she was going to be the bully on the block for decades. Well, that didn't happen. Her career has not been what the experts thought it would be, but how does it measure up in her mind? Are there some hints and insights we can gain from looking through her history and some of the remarks she has made through the years? Let's tee it up!

What a fantastic weekend of golf. The word that keeps coming to mind is "satisfying."  Nate Lashley got it done, and it is one of the most amazing stories in golf this year, if not the best. It might even be better than Tiger Wood's win at the Masters. Seriously, it is that good. Steve Stricker also one the US Senior Open in dominating fashion, so very cool, for one of the best guys on tour. Let's tee it up!

How's the summer going? How's the golf game coming? How are your less than full wedge shots? Are you hitting those babies stiff? Are you hitting those beautiful low, two-hop and stop spinners? If not, let's fix that. Let's tee it up!

We learned in the US Open at Pebble Beach this year that bunker play was hugely important! How are you doing from the sand this summer? Let's go through the most popular techniques and see if we can't come up with one that is most simple to remember and implement, taking much of the confusion out of our bunker technique. Let's tee it up!
