With recent miserable weather keeping more people indoors, Virgin Media Ireland, Ireland's leading telecommunications and entertainment provider, has analysed Google Search data from the past 12 months.
The study focused on streaming-related keywords such as "online streaming", "stream movies" and "stream TV shows". Results were adjusted per 100,000 people to reveal which counties are the most streaming-obsessed.
Dublin takes the crown as Ireland's most streaming-obsessed county, with 1,156 streaming-related searches per 100,000 people, the highest figure in the country. It's no surprise that the capital plays a starring role in some of Ireland's most well-known TV and movie productions.
TV shows like Normal People and Bad Sisters have brought Dublin to screens around the world. Films such as Once, set on the city's streets and winner of the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2008, add to its strong film and TV legacy.
County Leitrim ranks second with 910 searches per 100,000 people. Despite its small population, Leitrim residents clearly enjoy cosying up on the couch and keeping up with the world's most popular shows.
Carlow ranks third with 872 searches per 100,000 people.
The county may be small, but its love for streaming is strong. Platforms like YouTube and Twitch rely on fast internet, and Carlow delivers. With an average broadband speed of 190.8 Mbps, it is also a great spot for gamers.
Louth and Longford round out the top five counties for streaming. Louth recorded 809 searches per 100,000 people, with a total of 1,130 streaming-related searches, showing a strong appetite for TV shows and movies. The county has also played a role on the big screen, with the 1997 film The Devil's Own, starring Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt, filmed there.
While Longford followed closely behind with 749 searches per 100,000 people. Together, they show that streaming is just as popular in smaller counties as it is in Ireland's larger cities.
No matter the size of the county, people are turning to TV shows, movies, and games to stay entertained, showing that Ireland's love for streaming stretches across the entire country.
