Picture a meeting room on a Tuesday afternoon. Someone is presenting the quarterly numbers. Behind that one slide there are months of work. Pipelines that run at three in the morning. A data model somebody argued about for weeks. Numbers checked, rechecked, governed, blessed. The chart goes up on the screen. Everyone nods.
And then the person at the head of the table leans back and says, "I hear you. But my gut tells me something different." And the room moves on.
Here is the part that should keep us up at night. The data was right. Every number on that slide was correct. And it still lost. It lost to a feeling.
When that happens, our instinct is to treat it as a data problem. We buy another tool. We build another dashboard. We add one more chart, because surely the eleventh one will be the one that lands. And the graveyard grows. Dashboards nobody opens. Reports nobody reads. Study after study says most of the data companies collect is never even analyzed, and a scary share of professionals admit they do not trust the data in front of them when it is time to decide. It is what I like to call a shelfware.
But the problem was never in the data. The problem is in the space between the data and the human being looking at it. And that space is smaller than we think. It comes down to three little moments. Does the thing on the screen catch your eye at all? Does your brain recognize what it is looking at? And when you walk out of that room, does anything stay with you? Fail any one of those three, and every beautiful piece of engineering upstream was for nothing.
Presented by Qlik Partner Ambassador MVP Igor Alcantara, Qlik Partner and Education Ambassador Angelika Klidas, this episode invites Henny Speelman, a data visualization and data storytelling expert, to talk about his framework: A.R.T. and the impact of how we see the world around us in the way we interpret data.
