Dave Gleeson was a man’s man in 1987/88 when I first met him, both of us working at the Carlton Police Station.
It was the days of Alfonz Gangitano and the Carlton Crew and they kept us very busy. The Pettingals lived around the corner as did many other old time crooks and career criminals.
Dave went on to become a decorated and dedicated high-ranking Detective within Victoria Police and then joined the Australian Federal Police to work overseas. This all formed part of 37 years in a variety of policing jurisdictions & capacity development missions in Timor Leste, Afghanistan & Papua New Guinea.
PNG exposed Dave to several traumatic incidents, as did his time in Timor Leste & Afghanistan. That extremely competent, confident, funny, Policeman became a shell of the man I worked with at Carlton.
