This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Dre Baldwin. Dre is an interesting entrepreneur who owns the brand, Work on Your Game. He is a former pro-basketball player playing in 8 countries during this career. But, he wasn’t a superstar from the start. He had to work harder than anyone and walk on at a division 3 school to get his shot. And he made the most of it succeeding and turning pro.
He was an early adopter of YouTube and has a massive following and since leaving pro basketball, he has authored 35 books, created over 400 products, given 4 Ted Talks on Discipline, Confidence, Mental Toughness, and Personal Initiative. His daily Work on Your Game Masterclass has been downloaded over 7.5 million times!
Hearing all of that, you can see why I asked him to be on the show and I love his no-nonsense straightforward approach to success because it’s a lot like mine.

This is another special episode and I got the idea of it from a recent service at our church, Worthington Christian Church here in Ohio. Now before you turn this off or stop watching, I am not going to be teaching a sermon to you and pushing the Bible down your throat, but as I listened to this message which was about the 10 Principles learned from the Story of Joseph in Genesis, I could not help but think about how much the 10 principles not only are useful in life, but incredibly important for success in entrepreneurship.

Many years ago, I introduced a new format that alongside our regular episodes called “Lessons for Hannah.” Hannah is my daughter and one of the main inspirations for the Misfit Entrepreneur. I wanted to have a place where she could go and learn from her daddy and his Misfit friends throughout her life….even after I am gone. If you haven’t listened to the first episode of "Lessons for Hannah," I urge you to as it gives some more background and tells the amazing story of how Hannah came to be in our lives.
Lessons for Hannah are short, very useful, and sometimes comical lessons, that I want to share with you and give to Hannah to help in your lives. Because I want Hannah to have these for her life, I’m going to speak as though I am talking directly to her. These episodes are a lot of fun and if you think there is a lesson that we should include in these episodes, please don’t hesitate to send it over to us at [email protected]. We’d love to share it.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Dominic Rubino. Dominic is an interesting Misfit. He is a serial entrepreneur who’s had businesses in Construction Trades, Contracting, Mail Order, Pharmaceuticals, Real Estate, & Business Coaching. But It took a long time for Dominic to feel like he could call himself an entrepreneur and the turning point came AFTER he took his business from zero to over 120 million in sales (with, as he says, some serious internal dysfunctions!).
You may have heard of him, not so much from what I I’ve shared, but as the host of two very popular podcasts, “Profit Tool Belt” and “Cabinet Maker Profit System.” He’s also the author of the book Construction Millionaire Secrets.
Domini is a true misfit and Swiss army knife of entrepreneurship, so we’re going to hit on all kinds of topics in this episode.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Ed Hajjim. Ed is a long-time Wall Street executive and entrepreneur with over 50 years of experience. Most people that hear his origin story are amazed that he ended up where he has. But, in reality, Ed has one of the best stories that is the truest testament to the American Dream and what is possible that I have ever heard. And I’m excited for him to share it today. But first, I mentioned 50 years’ experience. Here is a little bit of Ed’s pedigree…
Ed has held senior management positions with the Capital Group, E.F. Hutton and Lehman Brothers before becoming chairman and CEO of Furman Selz. He was the co-chairman of ING Barings, Americas Region; chairman and CEO of ING Aeltus Group and ING Furman Selz Asset Management; and chairman and CEO of MLH Capital. Presently, he is chairman of High Vista, a Boston-based money management company. In 2008, after 20 years as a trustee of the University of Rochester, he began an eight-year tenure as chairman of the university’s board. Upon assuming that office, he gave the school $30 million—the largest single donation in its history—to support scholarships and endow the Edmund A. Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Through his Family Foundation, he has made generous donations to organizations that promote education, health care, arts, culture and conservation.
Ed is the author of several books including, the Road Less Traveled: An Unlikely Journey from the Orphanage to the Boardroom. And I’m excited to squeeze as much wisdom as I can from him in our time together in this episode.

This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Dane Espegard. This conversation today holds a special place for me as Dane is division leader for Vector Marketing. Some of you may know Vector or even worked for them as they are the company behind Cutco knives. I have talked about this before, but I initially cut my teeth in selling and paid for my college selling Cutco. Everyone that works for them is a contractor building their own business, whether a salesperson, district, division manager and so on. To get to running a division means you are one of the best at developing people, especially young people. And over 2 decades, Dane has built a division that has sold over $51 million in cutlery! A $50+ million-dollar business selling knives primarily through high schoolers and young adults. If you can do that, you are doing something right. So, you can understand why I’ve invited Dane on the show to share his secrets for building a great business and organization.
It's great timing too as he has released the book, The Dream Machine: A Leader's Guide to Creating Teams of High Performers Who Achieve Extraordinary Outcomes.
