April 25, 2023Darian June – Red FM representative for Irish Music Month ‘New Local Hero’ awardDarian spoke ahead of the ‘New Local Hero’ final in The Academy Dublin. Part of Irish Music Month, run across 25 different Irish radio stations in association with Hotpress Magazine and the IBI, Darian is one of 6 shortlisted artists in line to win a €10,000 bursary. Darian talks about the build up to the event in the Academy, as well as about how herself and the other shortlisted artists took part in a photo shot and received mentoring from industry professionals and musicians. April 25, 2023Craig Harrington Cork Sports Partnership on new initiative for inclusionAs part of its diversity and inclusion strategy a new initiative by Cork Sports Partnership has seen them team up with the Primary Schools Sports Committee to run an event at the Mardyke on April 27th which will be for children in mainstream schools who have a physical disability. This is the first of its kind and next year will see both events taking place on the same day demonstrating true and full inclusion within primary school sports events. The event on Thursday will see children from schools all across Cork take part in races for wheelchairs, visual impairment, hearing impairment, power chairs, cerebral palsy, Congenital Scoliosis, spina bifida, Olliers Disease with roughly 10 races happening on the day. April 20, 2023Noel Kelleher on ‘Dara gives back - Pedal for the POONS’A few weeks before his third birthday Noel’s son Dara was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Now the Ballincollig family is looking to give back to the Mercy Hospital with “Darragh Gives Back-Pedal For The Poons ”. With the aim of raising €60,000 this Saturday for the Mercy Hospital Foundation, taking the form of a 12 hour indoor cycle, in Ballincollig GAA Club. He is on the far side of his treatment with thanks to the help of Dr. Clodagh Ryan. April 18, 2023Jacob Harmon- Head of Fundraising with AADI ( Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland)Jacob who is originally from Georgia but married to a Dub spoke on what is Autism Awareness Month, with hopes of bringing attention to the work of Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland. For the past 13 years, it has been providing highly trained autism assistance dogs to those with additional needs. It will take a period of 2 years and €25,000 to train an assistance dog. Funding is reliant primarily on the generosity of the public. Niall O’Halloran manager at Rochestown Park Hotel is one of 315 volunteers with their organization. His role is to educate the hospitality sector as to how best deal with assistance dogs in their Hotel. Aside from this, they’re speaking at 8 different universities throughout the month of April. April 13, 2023Linda Plover – Joy In The Park 2023Dave caught up with Linda ahead of Joy in the Park 2023, which is a family-friendly event happening in Fitzgerald’s Park on Sunday July 23rd. It’s an event in memory of Joy a family member of Linda’s. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the importance of looking after your mental health, while also connecting with others, and finding Joy. It’s also trying to destigmatize talking to others if you’re struggling. There will be several mental health services at the event including Pieta House, Jigsaw, and the Samaritans. As well as music from the likes of Frank and Walters, Karen Underwood, Aoife Scott, Pontious Pilate and the Naildrivers, and the Circus Factory. Several workshops will also be at the event.
