There is a little known group up in Boston, that makes the official call on every recession. They are called the National Bureau of Economic Research. The NBER is a not for profit, private research firm, founded in 1920. So this year marks their 100th anniversary.

And on Monday, they made their most dramatic recession call in their history. Something that was totally out of character.
