The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - bypassed ESPN College Gameday to record their own pregame show ahead of the titanic 'PURPLE OUT' matchup between No. 8 Oregon and No. 7 Washington. So if UW fans just want to have something to listen to instead of the occasional talk about the Ducks and Huskies on ESPN, you can listen to us preview the game!
But to start, Chris and Scott recap their thoughts on Tuesday's press conference introducing new Washington Athletic Director Troy Dannen, who comes to Montlake from Tulane. Then talk moves to Gameday and the first matchup: Oregon's offense, led by quarterback Bo Nix, versus Washington's defense. Washington's biggest nemesis here might not necessarily be their opponent but the penalties that have plagued them since the start of the season. And in a game expected to be a tight one - essentially a pick 'em game by the oddsmakers - eliminating penalties is essential.
After a quick break, the guys then turn the tables and talk about what they think Oregon might do on their defensive side of the ball to take away UW Quarterback Michael Penix Jr and the Huskies' potent pass offense, currently ranked No. 1 in the country for production.
And then there's the coaching. Will the matchup between UO Head Coach Dan Lanning and UW Head Coach Kalen DeBoer become an intangible to watch like the anticipated crowd noise inside Husky Stadium? We'll have to watch for it.
Scott then went down a good chunk of the list of expected prospects from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes that will be at the game as guests of the Huskies. As far as regular season games go, this might be the biggest one in recent memory as far as top, top recruiting targets coming on their dime to see UW play. There's over 50 right now we know of, and more could be coming. And could there be any verbal commitments that drop Washington's way as a result of time spent on Montlake this weekend?
To wrap things up, the guys give their final thoughts on the game and Kim recaps his time this week in Las Vegas during the Pac-12 Basketball media days for the women and men, including his conversations with Tina Langley, Mike Hopkins, Keion Brooks, and Sahvir Wheeler.
