Ascetic Echoes

Day 10 - Nativity Fast 2025

Listen Later

Reflecting on St. Matthew 2:2—“Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him”—this meditation invites us to journey with the wise men, who set out without a map, without guarantees, and without knowing their final destination. They did not know what tomorrow would hold; they only knew that the star before them was trustworthy.

Rev. Fr. Dr. Timothy (Tenny) Thomas draws on the teaching of St. John Chrysostom, who reminds us that creation itself became a teacher for those who were attentive. The star was more than a light in the sky—it was God’s quiet invitation, guiding hearts willing to move. The wise men could not yet see the Child or Bethlehem, but they trusted the light they were given and followed it.

This reflection speaks to our own longing for certainty. We often wait for clarity before acting, but God usually reveals only the next faithful step. Today, He still guides us—not always through stars, but through Scripture, the wisdom of the Church, the nudging of conscience, unexpected peace, and the gentle pull of grace.

As we journey through the Nativity Fast, we are invited to trust the light God has placed before us, however small it may seem. Follow one spiritual nudge today and move your feet in faith, even before you can see where the path will lead.
