Hope changes how you talk about the future. Joseph has lived through betrayal, slavery, prison, power, reunion, and forgiveness.

Joseph remains in Egypt with his father’s household and lives to be 110 years old. He sees Ephraim’s children to the third generation and also sees the children of Manasseh’s son Machir.

Hebrews 11 says Joseph spoke by faith about Israel’s exodus and gave instructions about his bones. That means Joseph’s burial request was not sentiment.

God keeps promises beyond the lifetime of the person who first hears them. Joseph dies before the exodus, but He does not doubt that God will act.

Joseph’s hope points forward to the greater deliverance in Jesus. God visited His people not only by bringing Israel out of Egypt, but by sending His Son into the world.

Think about one hope you are building your life on. Is it strong enough to face death, disappointment, and delay?

REFLECT & RESPOND

Key Line: Faith plans for God’s promise even when fulfillment is farther away than your lifetime.

Reflection Question: What are you treating as your final home, and how does God’s promise challenge that?

Practice: Write one sentence of hope rooted in Jesus and place it somewhere visible today.

PRAYER

God, teach me to hope in promises that last longer than my plans. Help me not to make comfort my final home. Thank You for visiting Your people through Jesus and bringing deliverance from sin and death.
