Growth can make insecure people nervous. When someone else’s influence, group, or family becomes stronger, fear can turn into control.
Exodus begins by naming the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob. Joseph and his generation die, but the Israelites become fruitful, multiply, and fill the land.
Genesis 15 gives context for this moment. God told Abram that his offspring would be sojourners in a land not theirs, afflicted for four hundred years, and that God would judge the nation they served.
God is faithful even when circumstances look hostile to His promise. Israel’s suffering is real, but Pharaoh’s oppression cannot stop God’s multiplication.
Israel’s suffering under Pharaoh points forward to the deeper slavery Jesus came to break. Sin, death, and evil powers hold humanity in bondage, but Christ enters our suffering, bears our judgment, and rises as Deliverer.
Name one hard pressure that makes you question whether God is still working. Do not call it good if it is wrong or painful.

REFLECT & RESPOND
Key Line: God’s promise can keep growing where Pharaoh thinks He has control.
Reflection Question: Where have you mistaken hardship for proof that God has stopped working?
Practice: Write one painful pressure and one truth about God’s faithfulness beside it.

PRAYER
God, when pressure increases, I start wondering whether You are still faithful. Help me see that Your promise is not fragile. Strengthen people living under oppression, and strengthen me where life feels heavy.
