You can spend years in ordinary routines and still be met by God in a moment you did not expect. Moses is keeping sheep in the wilderness, far from Egypt and far from the palace.
Moses is shepherding the flock of his father-in-law Jethro and comes to Horeb, the mountain of God. The angel of the Lord appears to him in a flame of fire from a bush.
In Mark 12, Jesus quotes God’s words from the bush to show that God is not God of the dead, but of the living. The God who identifies Himself with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob remains faithful beyond death.
God is holy, personal, and compassionate. He tells Moses to remove His sandals, yet He also says He has seen, heard, and known Israel’s suffering.
The God who comes down to deliver Israel points forward to Jesus, God the Son who comes down in flesh. He enters our bondage, bears our sin, and rises to lead us into freedom.
When you feel inadequate for something God is asking of you, do not begin with “Who am I?” Begin with “God, You are with me.” Name the task, then ask for His presence and take the next faithful step.

REFLECT & RESPOND
Key Line: God’s call rests more on His presence than your confidence.
Reflection Question: What task or obedience makes you ask, “Who am I?” instead of trusting God’s presence?
Practice: Write one hard task and pray, “God, be with me here,” before taking the next step.

PRAYER
Holy God, You see, hear, and know suffering. Thank You for coming near without becoming small. When I feel inadequate, remind me that Your presence matters more than my confidence.
