Hardness can grow in stages. At first, someone resists a warning.
The Lord sends Moses to Pharaoh with the command to let His people go. If Pharaoh refuses, a severe plague will strike Egypt’s livestock: horses, donkeys, camels, herds, and flocks.
Romans 9 reflects on Pharaoh and says God raised him up to show His power and proclaim His name in all the earth. Paul adds that God has mercy on whom He wills and hardens whom He wills.
God is sovereign over judgment and mercy. He distinguishes Israel, strikes Egypt’s false confidence, and exposes the magicians’ powerlessness.
Pharaoh’s hardness displays judgment, but the gospel displays mercy through Jesus. Christ enters a world full of hard hearts and bears judgment at the cross so rebels can be forgiven.
Ask God to show you one area where repeated refusal has made you less sensitive. Do not defend it.

REFLECT & RESPOND
Key Line: Every refusal trains your soul either toward hardness or toward surrender.
Reflection Question: Where has repeated resistance made obedience feel less urgent than it really is?
Practice: Confess one repeated refusal and do one obedient action before the day ends.

PRAYER
God, I do not want to become hard while calling it strength. Show me where I have ignored Your warnings and resisted Your mercy. Soften me through Jesus.
