Darkness can be more than the absence of light. It can feel thick, confusing, isolating, and heavy.

The Lord tells Moses to stretch out his hand toward heaven so darkness may come over Egypt, a darkness to be felt. Moses obeys, and thick darkness covers Egypt for three days.

Jesus says in John 8, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not live in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Egypt’s darkness shows judgment and helplessness.

God rules over light and darkness. Egypt may worship created powers, but the Lord commands the sky itself.

At the cross, darkness falls as Jesus bears judgment for sin. But darkness does not win.

Name one place where darkness feels thick: confusion, secrecy, sin, fear, despair, or control. Bring it into Christ’s light by telling God the truth and, if needed, telling a trustworthy person too.

REFLECT & RESPOND

Key Line: Darkness feels powerful, but it is not ultimate where God gives light.

Reflection Question: What part of your life needs the light of Christ instead of more secrecy or control?

Practice: Tell the truth about one dark or hidden place to God, and seek wise help if needed.
