It is easy to say, “I did not mean for that to happen,” after someone gets hurt. But responsibility does not disappear because harm was unplanned.
God gives Israel laws about murder, manslaughter, violence against parents, kidnapping, assault, injury, and dangerous animals. The passage distinguishes between intentional harm and accidental death, but both are treated seriously.
Jesus says in Matthew 7 to do to others what you would have them do to you. Exodus 21 shows that principle in legal form.
God is simply and protective of human life. He sees murder, violence, carelessness, and injury as moral realities, not accidents to be brushed aside.
Jesus fulfills God’s justice and mercy perfectly. He never treats human life casually, and He takes responsibility for people who harmed others and dishonored God.
Think of one place where your carelessness could affect someone else: words, driving, online behavior, anger, joking, or responsibility you keep neglecting. Take one concrete step to protect someone from harm or repair harm already done.

REFLECT & RESPOND
Key Line: Love does not hide behind “I did not mean to” when harm needs repair.
Reflection Question: Where do you need to take responsibility for harm, risk, or carelessness instead of minimizing it?
Practice: Make one concrete repair or safety-minded choice today that protects another person.

PRAYER
God, teach me to value people the way You do. Forgive me for excuses, carelessness, and harm I have minimized. Help me take responsibility where my choices affect others.
