God Learned Our Language

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” - Saint John 1:14

The mystery of the Nativity is not only that God came to us, but how He came. The eternal Word did not shout from heaven or remain distant in divine silence. He entered our world by learning our language—breath, words, tears, laughter, hunger, and prayer. St. Ephrem the Syrian beautifully says that “He spoke eternity in human syllables.” God chose to be understood.

In Jesus Christ, God did not bypass our humanity; He embraced it. He learned to speak as we speak, to listen as we listen, to love within the limits of human life. The Word became flesh so that no part of our existence would be foreign to Him. Our questions, struggles, doubts, and joys are now places where God is fluent.

The Nativity Fast invites us to trust this closeness. We often feel we must approach God with polished words or perfect prayers. But the Incarnation tells us otherwise. God understands the language of sighs, half-formed thoughts, and honest cries. He meets us not beyond our humanity, but within it.

If God has learned our language, then we do not need to hide behind formality or fear. We can speak plainly. We can speak truthfully. We can speak as we are.

The Word who became flesh still dwells among us—full of grace for our weakness and truth for our confusion. He does not wait for eloquence; He waits for honesty.

Speak honestly to God. Offer one unfiltered sentence—no performance, no polish. Trust that the God who learned our language is already listening.
