A community reveals its values by how it treats people with less power. It is easy to honor the popular, wealthy, attractive, or useful.
God gives Israel commands that connect holiness with mercy. A man who seduces a virgin must take responsibility rather than use her and leave.
James 1 says pure and undefiled religion includes visiting orphans and widows in their affliction and keeping oneself unstained from the world. Exodus 22 already holds those together.
God hears the cry of the afflicted. He identifies the vulnerable clearly: immigrants, widows, orphans, and the poor.
Jesus embodies perfect holiness and mercy. He comes near to the vulnerable without being stained by sin, and He gives Himself for the guilty and needy.
Notice one vulnerable person near you: someone grieving, new, isolated, poor, anxious, or easy to ignore. Do one concrete act of mercy that protects dignity, not attention for yourself.

REFLECT & RESPOND
Key Line: Holiness that ignores the vulnerable has misunderstood the God who hears their cry.
Reflection Question: Who near you is easy to overlook but deeply seen by God?
Practice: Do one quiet act of mercy for a vulnerable or overlooked person today.

PRAYER
God, You hear the cries I miss. Make me holy in a way that moves toward mercy. Forgive me for ignoring vulnerable people or using others for myself.
