Promises become serious when they are sealed. A handshake, signature, vow, or ceremony says, “This matters.

God tells Moses to come up with Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders, though Moses alone may come near. Moses tells the people all the Lord’s words and rules, and they answer that they will do everything the Lord has spoken.

Hebrews 9 explains that even the first covenant was inaugurated with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. Exodus 24 shows that covenant relationship with God is not casual.

God is holy and relational. He gives His words, requires covenant blood, and yet allows Israel’s leaders to behold Him and share a meal in His presence.

At the Last Supper, Jesus speaks of the new covenant in His blood. He fulfills what Exodus 24 anticipated.

Before making any promise to God, remember the promise Jesus has kept for you. Thank Him for the new covenant in His blood, then choose one act of obedience as grateful response, not self-salvation.
