Getting the gift without the relationship is not enough. Israel is still promised land, milk, honey, and victory, but after the golden calf, God says He will not go in their midst because their sin would bring judgment.
The Lord tells Moses to lead the people toward the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God will send an angel before them and drive out the nations, but He says He will not go up in their midst because Israel is stiff-necked and could be consumed.
Jesus tells His disciples in John 15 that He no longer calls them servants only, but friends, because He has made known to them what He heard from the Father. Moses’ face-to-face fellowship echoes forward to the friendship Jesus gives.
God’s presence is holy and relational. He cannot dwell casually among unrepentant sin, yet He meets with Moses and allows the people to seek Him.
Sin puts God’s presence at risk, but Jesus comes to bring us near. He is the true meeting place, the Friend who reveals the Father and the Mediator who removes guilt.
Ask yourself honestly: “Would I be satisfied with answered prayers if I did not have closeness with God?” Spend five minutes seeking God Himself, with no requests except to know Him and value His presence.

REFLECT & RESPOND
Key Line: The promised land is not enough without the presence of the Promiser.
Reflection Question: What gift or outcome are you tempted to want more than God’s presence?
Practice: Spend five minutes in prayer with no requests except to know and value God Himself.

PRAYER
God, I do not want to love Your gifts more than Your presence. Forgive me for being content with comfort while neglecting closeness with You. Thank You for Jesus, who brings me near and calls His people friends.
