Today we’re in John 19, where it appears that Jesus is facing His ultimate defeat. He is mocked, ridiculed, humiliated, and nailed to a cross. But what looks like defeat is actually the greatest victory.

In verse 30, Jesus declares, “It is finished.” With those words, He proclaims that the work of the Father is complete. The mission is accomplished. Through the cross, the debt of our sin has been fully paid, and we are forever cleansed.

What Jesus accomplished on the cross changed the course of history. We are now free. We’ve been given a new identity as children of God. We no longer strive or perform for approval. Our forgiveness is guaranteed, and our freedom is secure.

May we have a fresh revelation of the cross today and step fully into the life of freedom Jesus has invited us into.
