In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Numbers 19–25, where God keeps shepherding a stubborn people through the wilderness, proving that His faithfulness is stronger than their failure.

We begin with the purification laws of the red heifer, a reminder that uncleanness is real and cleansing must come from God. Then the story turns tragic: Moses strikes the rock, leaders die, and the people keep wrestling with fear and complaint. Yet the Lord still provides water, still guides, still protects. Even when Israel faces enemies, God turns curses into blessing through Balaam, showing that no human scheme can overturn what God has promised.

But the danger isn’t only outside the camp. It’s inside. Numbers 25 shows Israel’s compromise with idolatry and sexual immorality, and the deadly cost of blending in with the nations. Holiness matters because God’s presence is among His people.

These chapters teach us that the wilderness exposes what’s in us, but it also reveals who God is: patient, powerful, and committed to His covenant. And they point forward to Jesus, who cleanses the unclean, defeats the enemy’s accusations, and keeps His people when they cannot keep themselves.

If you haven’t read Numbers 19–25 yet, pause and do that now, then come back and let’s read it together.
