In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re finishing Joshua with chapters 17–24, where the inheritance is settled and a final choice is set before the people.

Some tribes hesitate, seeing obstacles instead of opportunity. Joshua challenges them to step forward in faith and finish driving out what remains. The land is distributed, cities of refuge are established, and the Levites are given their towns, showing that worship and justice are meant to anchor life in the land. The eastern tribes nearly fracture the nation over an altar misunderstanding, but patient dialogue preserves unity. Even in blessing, division is always a threat.

Then Joshua gathers the nation for one final covenant renewal. He retells God’s saving acts from Abraham to the conquest, making it clear that every victory has been grace. And then comes the famous line: “Choose for yourselves today: which will you worship?” The people declare loyalty, but Joshua warns them soberly about the weight of that commitment.

The book ends with rest in the land, the burial of Joshua, and a generation that has seen God’s faithfulness firsthand. But the question lingers: will they continue to serve the Lord?

Joshua 17–24 reminds us that receiving God’s promises is only the beginning. Ongoing faithfulness matters. And it points us to Jesus, the greater Joshua, who not only gives us an inheritance but keeps us faithful to the end.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Joshua 9–16, where victory continues, but so do lessons about discernment, faithfulness, and finishing what God started.

In chapter 9, the Gibeonites deceive Israel, and the leaders make a covenant without seeking the Lord. It’s a reminder that even in success, prayerlessness leads to compromise. Yet God weaves even their mistake into His larger purposes. Then we see dramatic victories as the Lord fights for Israel, even causing the sun to stand still. The land is being taken not by Israel’s brilliance, but by God’s promise and power.

But the story shifts from conquest to inheritance. The land is surveyed and divided. Caleb stands out as a picture of persevering faith, asking for the very hill country still occupied by giants. The promise made decades earlier is now received because he followed the Lord wholeheartedly.

Joshua 9–16 teaches us that entering God’s promises requires both dependence and endurance. Partial obedience leaves unfinished work. Wholehearted faith presses forward. And it points us to Jesus, the true and better Joshua, who secures our inheritance and empowers us to walk in it fully.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Joshua 1–8, where the promise God made to Abraham finally begins to take visible shape.

Joshua steps into leadership after Moses’ death, and the Lord’s command is clear: be strong and courageous, not because you are fearless, but because God’s presence goes with you. The people cross the Jordan on dry ground, a reminder that the same God who parted the Red Sea still leads His people forward. Stones are stacked as memorials so no one forgets what the Lord has done.

We see Rahab’s surprising faith, Jericho’s walls falling not by military genius but by obedience to God’s Word, and then the sobering defeat at Ai because of hidden sin. Victory and failure sit side by side, teaching Israel that success in the land depends not on strength, but on covenant faithfulness. When the sin is exposed and dealt with, the Lord restores them, and Ai falls.

Joshua 1–8 shows us that entering God’s promise requires courage rooted in obedience. God keeps His Word. But He also calls His people to walk in holiness. And it points us to Jesus, the greater Joshua, who leads His people into the true rest, conquers our enemies, and deals decisively with the sin that would otherwise destroy us.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re finishing Deuteronomy with chapters 31–34, where Moses prepares to die and Israel prepares to move forward.

Moses commissions Joshua, reminding the people that courage is not rooted in personality, but in the promise: “The LORD is the one who will go before you.” The law is written down and entrusted to the priests, to be read publicly so future generations won’t forget. Then comes the Song of Moses, a poetic witness that both warns and promises, exposing Israel’s future rebellion while magnifying God’s unshakable faithfulness.

Chapter 33 records Moses’ final blessing over the tribes, echoing Jacob’s words generations earlier. And then chapter 34 brings a quiet, weighty ending. Moses sees the land from a distance, but does not enter it. The servant of the Lord dies, and yet God’s purposes move forward. Deuteronomy closes by saying no prophet like Moses had yet arisen in Israel.

That ending leaves us looking ahead. We need a greater Prophet. A greater Mediator. One who not only speaks God’s Word, but brings His people all the way into the promise. And the rest of Scripture answers that longing in Jesus, who leads us into the true inheritance and never leaves us on the mountain.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Deuteronomy 21–30, where Moses brings the covenant to a climax and presses a final decision into the heart of the nation.

These chapters move through everyday laws that shape justice, family life, sexuality, generosity, leadership, and worship. Nothing is outside God’s concern. The Lord cares about hidden sins, honest business, care for the poor, and purity in the camp. Holiness is not theoretical. It touches ordinary life.

Then the tone intensifies. Chapters 27–28 lay out the blessings for obedience and the sobering curses for rebellion. Covenant life is real. So are covenant consequences. Moses does not hide the future. If they walk away from the Lord, exile will follow. Yet even that warning carries hope.

By the time we reach chapters 29–30, Moses calls the people to renewal. The Lord knows their hearts. He promises that after failure and scattering, He Himself will circumcise their hearts so they can truly love Him. And then comes the great choice: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life.”

These chapters press the question into every generation: will we trust the Lord and walk in His ways, or turn aside? And they point us to Jesus, who bears the curse of the covenant in our place and secures the blessing by His obedience. In Him, life is not just commanded. It is given.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Deuteronomy 11–20, where Moses presses the choice before Israel with clarity and urgency: blessing or curse, life or death.

Chapter 11 sets the tone. Remember what you’ve seen. Remember God’s discipline, His power, His faithfulness. The land ahead is not like Egypt. It depends on rain from heaven, which means it depends on the Lord. Then comes the public choice: Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal, blessing and curse. Covenant life is never neutral.

From there, Moses lays out what covenant faithfulness looks like in everyday life: true worship without compromise, justice in leadership, protection for the vulnerable, integrity in courts, and compassion woven into community rhythms. Kings are warned not to trust horses or wealth. Prophets are tested by fidelity to God’s Word. Even warfare is regulated, showing that the Lord, not military strength, secures victory.

These chapters show that loving God is not vague sentiment. It reshapes worship, politics, economics, and even the battlefield. The call is simple but weighty: trust the Lord fully, obey Him completely, and do not mix His name with the idols of the nations.

And as we read, we feel the tension. Who can keep this perfectly? That question points us forward to Jesus, the true and faithful King, the greater Prophet, the One who obeys where Israel failed and secures the blessing we could never earn.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Deuteronomy 6–10, where Moses presses the call to wholehearted devotion into a people standing on the edge of promise.

It begins with the Shema: “Hear, O Israel.” Love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. This is not abstract theology. It’s daily obedience, teaching your children, remembering when you sit, walk, lie down, and rise up. Moses warns them that prosperity can become a greater threat than persecution. When the land flows with milk and honey, will they still remember who brought them out of Egypt?

Chapters 7–9 drive the point deeper: Israel is not chosen because of their righteousness or strength. They are stubborn, slow to trust, and quick to rebel. The golden calf stands as proof. Yet God remains faithful to His covenant promises. Grace, not merit, is the foundation of their identity.

Then chapter 10 calls for a response: fear the Lord, walk in His ways, love Him, serve Him, and cling to Him. Circumcise your hearts. The obedience God desires is not surface-level compliance, but inward transformation.

These chapters remind us that belonging to God begins with grace and is sustained by remembrance. And they point us to Jesus, who perfectly loves the Father, secures the covenant by His blood, and gives us new hearts that can truly cling to Him.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Deuteronomy 1–5, where Moses stands on the edge of the promised land and preaches remembrance into a forgetful people.

He retells the story of the wilderness, not to entertain, but to warn and to renew faith. Israel’s failure at Kadesh-barnea shows what fear does: it turns promise into panic and obedience into delay. Yet through it all, God has carried them, disciplined them, and brought them back to this moment. Then Moses calls the people to listen again. The covenant is not just history. Deuteronomy 5 brings us back to the Ten Commandments, reminding Israel that God redeemed them first, then taught them how to live. Law follows grace. Obedience is not the price of belonging. It is the path of the people who have been brought near.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Deuteronomy 6–10, where Moses presses one truth into Israel’s heart: the promised land will not keep you. Only the Lord can.

Deuteronomy 6 centers everything on love and loyalty to God. “Hear, O Israel” is not a slogan, it’s a summons to whole-life worship. The Word is to be taught at home, carried through the day, and remembered when life gets comfortable. Then Moses warns them about the danger of blessing: full stomachs and settled lives can make people forget the God who saved them.

And in chapters 8–10, Moses retells Israel’s stubbornness, especially the golden calf, to make the point unmistakable: they are not chosen because they are righteous, but because God is faithful. Grace is the foundation. Humility is the posture. And the call is clear: fear the Lord, walk in His ways, love Him, and cling to Him.

These chapters teach us that real faith is not just starting well. It’s remembering well. And they point us to Jesus, who perfectly loves the Father, keeps the covenant, and gives us a new heart that actually wants to obey.

In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading Numbers 26–31, where God brings Israel to the edge of the promised land again, and prepares the next generation to walk in what the last generation refused.

A new census is taken, not as busywork, but as a sober reminder: the wilderness did exactly what God said it would do. Then the Lord begins setting the future in order, even through unexpected people, like the daughters of Zelophehad, showing His justice and care in the details. Moses is told his leadership will soon end, and Joshua is appointed, because God’s mission doesn’t rise or fall on one man. The offerings and vows are repeated, pressing home that worship and obedience are not optional for a people who belong to the Lord.

And then the tone sharpens. Numbers 31 shows holy judgment against Midian, tied directly to the temptation and idolatry of the previous chapter. God is teaching Israel that compromise is not harmless. It destroys. He will not let the infection spread.

These chapters are about transition: from old to new, from wandering to entering, from rebellion to renewal. And they point us to Jesus, the greater Joshua, who leads His people into the true inheritance, cleanses what is unclean, and keeps God’s promises all the way to the end.
