DAY 53: Jacob Sent Away

Leaving home can carry mixed feelings: relief, fear, guilt, sadness, hope, and uncertainty all tangled together. Jacob leaves because of family conflict, but Isaac also sends him with direction and blessing.
Isaac calls Jacob, blesses him, and commands him not to take a wife from the Canaanite women. He sends Jacob to Paddan-aram, to the family of Rebekah, so he can marry one of Laban’s daughters.
Genesis 24 gives context for Isaac’s marriage, when Abraham sent a servant to find a wife from his relatives rather than from Canaan. Now Isaac gives Jacob similar instructions.
God continues His covenant promise through imperfect people in complicated situations. Jacob leaves home because of conflict, yet Isaac speaks Abraham’s blessing over Him.
Jacob carries the blessing of Abraham forward, and that line will lead to Jesus. Christ enters a family history full of conflict, exile, favoritism, and failure.
Look at one situation where you are facing consequences and needing guidance at the same time. Do not deny either part.

God Almighty, thank You that You can lead me even when my situation is messy. Help me receive correction without despair and blessing without pride. Guide my choices, protect my loyalties, and keep me near Jesus, who fulfills every promise.
