Comparison can turn good gifts into weapons. Someone else gets what you want, and suddenly their joy feels like a threat.
Rachel sees that she has no children and envies Leah. She demands children from Jacob, and he reminds her that he is not God.
Psalm 127 says children are a heritage from the Lord and the fruit of the womb is a reward. Genesis 30 shows how easily people forget that.
God is the giver of life, even in homes filled with tension. He listens, remembers, opens wombs, and works through messy circumstances without approving the envy and rivalry.
The sons born in this strained family become the tribes of Israel, and through Israel comes Jesus. God brings the Savior through a family full of rivalry, not because rivalry is good, but because grace is stronger.
When comparison rises, do not pretend it is not there. Name it to God directly: “I envy this.” Then thank Him for one gift He has given you and bless the person you were tempted to resent by praying for their good.

God, envy makes me see other people’s gifts as threats. Forgive me for turning Your blessings into competition. Teach me to receive what You give with gratitude and to trust You with what I still long for.
