When someone with power comes after you, fear can take over fast. You replay conversations, imagine worst-case outcomes, and wonder whether you can defend yourself.

Three days after Jacob leaves, Laban hears the news and pursues him for seven days, catching up in the hill country of Gilead. But God comes to Laban in a dream and warns him not to say anything to Jacob, good or bad.

Psalm 124 says that if the Lord had not been on His people’s side, enemies would have swallowed them alive. Jacob’s encounter with Laban echoes that rescue.

God can restrain people who intend harm. He warns Laban directly and limits what He can do to Jacob.

Jacob needs rescue from Laban and from the tangled sin inside His own household. We need the same kind of deeper rescue.

Think of one conflict where you feel defensive. Ask God to protect you from harm and also to show you what truth you need to own.

REFLECT & RESPOND

Key Line: God can defend you without pretending every choice you made was clean.

Reflection Question: In your current conflict, what do you need God to protect you from, and what do you need to own honestly?

Practice: Write two sentences of prayer: one asking for protection and one asking for honest correction.
