In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading 2 Kings 21–25, where the long decline of both kingdoms reaches its breaking point.
Manasseh leads Judah into extreme idolatry and corruption, undoing much of the good that came before him. Though Josiah later brings sweeping reform and rediscovers the Book of the Law, the momentum of sin has already set the course.
Eventually, judgment comes. Jerusalem falls. The temple is destroyed. The people are carried into exile in Babylon.
The book ends in ruins, but with a small glimmer of hope, as a descendant of David is still preserved. Even in exile, God has not abandoned His promise.
If you haven’t read 2 Kings 21–25 yet, pause and do that now, then come back and let’s read it together.
