Some nights strip away your usual defenses. No crowd, no role, no performance, no way to distract yourself.

Jacob sends his family, servants, and possessions across the stream, and he remains alone. A Man wrestles with him through the night.

Hosea 12 looks back at Jacob and says he strove with God, wept, and sought His favor. Hosea also calls God’s people to return to the Lord, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for Him.

God is powerful enough to wound and merciful enough to bless. He does not flatter Jacob or let Him keep hiding behind cleverness.

Jacob sees God’s face and lives, but Jesus is God’s fullest self-revelation to us. At the cross, Jesus is wounded so our old identity in sin can be broken and replaced by grace.

Name one old identity you keep living from: deceiver, failure, performer, victim, outsider, controller, or someone who must earn everything. Bring that name to God.

Reflection Question: What old identity are you still clinging to, and what truth does God speak over you in Christ?

Practice: Write one false name you carry, cross it out, and write one true identity from Scripture beneath it.

PRAYER

God, I am tired of trying to control everything and hide what is true about me. Meet me with mercy and correction. Wound the pride that keeps me from depending on You.
