When someone is harmed, people often rush to manage appearances before they protect the wounded. They ask how this will affect the family, the group, the school, or the reputation.
Dinah, the daughter of Leah and Jacob, goes out to see the women of the land. Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, sees her, takes her, lies with her, and humiliates her.
Psalm 10 says God sees trouble and grief and takes it into His hands; the helpless commit themselves to Him. Dinah’s story needs that truth.
God sees violence that others try to rename or manage. He does not confuse desire with love or power with righteousness.
Jesus comes near to the violated, the silenced, and the powerless. He never treats wounded people as bargaining pieces.
If you know someone who has been harmed, do not turn their pain into gossip or advice. Offer one safe sentence: “I believe you, and you are not alone.” If this connects to your own experience, tell a trusted adult, pastor, counselor, or safe authority.
