Sometimes you need to go back to the place where God first got your attention. Not physically every time, but spiritually.
God tells Jacob to go up to Bethel, live there, and build an altar to the God who appeared to him when he fled from Esau. Jacob tells his household to put away foreign gods, purify themselves, and change clothes.
Joshua 24 calls Israel to fear the Lord, serve Him sincerely, and put away foreign gods, declaring, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Jacob’s household does something similar at Bethel. They cannot carry idols into renewed worship as if divided loyalty is harmless.
God calls His people back after chaos. He does not leave Jacob’s household buried in fear and compromise.
Bethel means house of God, but Jesus becomes the true meeting place between God and sinners. Through His death and resurrection, He cleanses us from deeper idolatry than we can remove ourselves.
Identify one idol-like attachment that competes with God’s place in your life. Do something concrete with it: delete it, move it, confess it, limit it, or write it down and surrender it in prayer.

Practice: Take one concrete action that removes, limits, or confesses an idol-like attachment today.

God, call me back where I have drifted. Show me the false gods I have been carrying and give me courage to put them away. Thank You for meeting me with mercy through Jesus.
