In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading 2 Chronicles 9–16, where the kingdom begins to shift from glory to gradual decline.

Solomon’s wisdom and wealth attract global attention, including the visit of the Queen of Sheba. But after his death, the kingdom divides, and the story turns.

Some kings in Judah seek the Lord and experience blessing, while others rely on political alliances instead of trusting God. Asa begins well, removing idols and calling the people back to the Lord, but later he turns to human solutions instead of divine help.

These chapters reveal a pattern: starting well is not the same as finishing well. Trust in God must be sustained, not assumed.

And through it all, the story keeps pointing forward to a better King, one who does not drift, does not divide, and does not fail. Jesus is that King, whose reign is marked by perfect faithfulness from beginning to end.

If you haven’t read 2 Chronicles 9–16 yet, pause and do that now, then come back and let’s read it together.
