In this episode of Reading Through the Bible Together, we’re reading 2 Chronicles 33–36, where Judah’s story comes to its breaking point.
After Manasseh, the pattern of decline continues. Josiah brings one final wave of reform after rediscovering the Book of the Law. He leads the people in repentance and restores worship, but the change does not last beyond his generation.
The kings who follow quickly return to rebellion. God sends prophets again and again, calling the people back, but they refuse to listen.
Finally, judgment comes. Babylon invades, Jerusalem falls, the temple is destroyed, and the people are taken into exile.
Yet the book does not end in silence. It ends with a decree from Cyrus, king of Persia, allowing God’s people to return and rebuild.
Even in judgment, hope remains.
If you haven’t read 2 Chronicles 33–36 yet, pause and do that now, then come back and let’s read it together.
