DAY 99: 1 Samuel 4–8
1 Samuel 4–8 traces a devastating progression in Israel's relationship with God, moving from presumption to repentance and then into a deeper, more deliberate rejection of His rule. When the ark is captured, when idols are put away and then replaced with the demand for a king, we see a people who have access to God's Word but refuse to submit to it. The glory departs not simply because of military failure, but because Israel consistently wants the benefits of God's presence without the reality of His lordship. These chapters ultimately point us to Christ, the true and better King, who does not rule like the nations but through righteousness and sacrifice, who cannot be captured or controlled, and who establishes a kingdom where God's rule is not rejected but finally and fully embraced.
