Where you want to be remembered can say a lot about what you believe. Jacob has lived in Egypt, been provided for there, and watched his family grow there.

Israel’s family settles in Goshen, gains possessions, and becomes fruitful in Egypt. Jacob lives there seventeen years, reaching 147 years old.

Hebrews 11 remembers Jacob blessing Joseph’s sons by faith and worshiping while leaning on his staff. That picture fits this moment too.

God’s promise outlasts Jacob’s lifetime. Jacob will die before His family fully inherits the land, but God has not changed His word.

Jacob wants burial in the promised land because He trusts God’s future. Jesus goes further.

Think about one choice you are making that will leave a message to others. Ask what it says you trust.

PRAYER

God, teach me to live with Your promise in view. Help my choices point beyond myself and toward Your faithfulness. When I think about death, keep me from fear and anchor me in Jesus’ resurrection.
