His feet were pierced, pointing to the promise in Genesis that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent’s head victory over sin and Satan. His side was pierced, reminding us that just as Eve came from Adam’s side, Christ made atonement not just for one, but for all humanity, male and female alike. And the crown of thorns placed on His head was not by accident. Thorns were the sign of the curse spoken over the earth after the fall: “thorns and thistles it shall bring forth.” Yet Jesus wore that crown, showing that He took the curse upon Himself so we could walk in freedom. This message connects the Old Testament to the New in a powerful way, revealing that the cross was not the end it was the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan from the very beginning.
