  • Recap November 1: Crisis 2020 – Stocks Dive Again (Recap Ep095)

In this week’s recap, Marcello talks about what seems like a repetition of the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, with the stocks market falling at record numbers not seen since months ago.

U.S. stocks to record one of their worst weeks of the year. All 3 indices are in the red & on track for their worst performance since March, when the market tumbled under the 1st wave of coronavirus infections & business lockdowns.

Asian & European stocks as well as commodity markets fell again on Thursday, with the stock market in France falling over 3%, after a return to national lockdowns in some of Europe’s biggest economies, triggering the worst global selloff in months.
Exxon-Mobil says that it intends to reduce its U.S. staff by around 1,900 employees. The job reductions will consist of both voluntary & involuntary programs. The company is reviewing its operations & final cuts could be close to 15% of the global workforce. The stock price remains flat on the news at $33 a share.
Central banks became gold sellers for the 1st time since 2010, as some producing nations exploited near-record prices, to soften the blow from the coronavirus pandemic. Net sales totaled 12.1 tons of bullion in Q3, vs. purchases of 141.9 tons a year earlier. Selling was driven by Uzbekistan & Turkey, while Russia’s central bank posted its first quarterly sale in 13 years. Overall gold demand fell -19% year-on-year.
Chinese President Xi Jinping begins a meeting in Beijing this week to map out the next phase of economic development with China’s 14th 5-year plan expected to center around technological innovation, economic self-reliance & a cleaner environment. Communist Party officials will also set goals for the next 15 years, as Xi seeks to deliver on his vow for the global lead in technology & other strategic industries.
At least 14 people were killed & hundreds were injured in Turkey & Greece after a strong earthquake struck the region with a magnitude of up to 7.0. Cenovus Energy has agreed to buy Husky Energy in a $2.9B all-stock deal that will combine 2 of the largest players in Canada’s struggling oil-sands industry. The combined firm will have about 750K bpd production, making it the 3rd-largest Canadian oil & natural gas producer. It will also be the 2nd-largest Canadian-based refiner & upgrader with total North American upgrading & refining capacity of 660K bpd.

U.S. stocks closed lower in the worst drop since June; Taiwan has achieved 200 days without a locally transmitted case; China could surpass US GDP in the next decade; AMD agreed to buy Xilinx

  • Do 90% of traders lose money? FALSE

Today, Marcello talks about that old saying that 90% of traders lose money and tries to find a study that backs up that asseveration but finds none.

Due to the lockdowns and all the aftermath caused by the coronavirus, Trading has become more and more popular because of its online and independent nature.
That saying is something Marcello and most of the people in the industry used to say, but he came to question this when he received an article saying otherwise. So, Marcello looked through the first 50 pages of google trying to find studies that backed up that theory; watched a lot of videos about the topic.
There are indeed some studies that show that a higher percentage of people lose money and since Marcello’s been in the industry for 20 years now (even though he looks like a teenager) he knows for sure that most people lose money in the beginning, but most of the people don’t lose money all the time.
Marcello found 4 studies that talk about the percentage of people that lose money trading.
One is from the Brazilian stock exchange. This one said that 97% of traders in their futures exchange lose money. Marcello says this is due to a probably very manipulated market, and they also used a very small sample and only took into account Brazilian traders.
Other is from the ESMA, The European Securities and Markets Authority. They require brokers to report the percentage of losing and winning accounts. He found that only 76.3% of the accounts under the ESMA were reported as losing accounts.
The NASAA also reported that 70% of traders will lose money, and finally the Spanish CNMV, the National Securities Market Commission, says that 75% of people who trade CFDs lose money.

But the real question is, why most people, in the beginning, lose money? Probably because people are sold a dream that they are going to open a small account and after a weekend-long course they will become millionaires and that is NOT TRUE. Trading is a skill that you have to develop over time.

  • Making a fortune investing in Medellin

In today’s video Marcello talk to us about how we can make a fortune investing in Medellin, Colombia.

Obviously, the coronavirus has caused some sort of curveball in all our plans, but that’s not necessarily a reason to not look for opportunities.
When we talk about real state, property value is always fluctuating. Prices go up in some places while the fo down in others. And since the economy is reopening worldwide, the housing market is also going to start gaining strength again.
One of the things Marcello’s been able to do during his career, and thanks to the fact that the world is now accessible to all of us, it’s looking for opportunities overseas that can give him the best return in profits.

Colombia has an extremely dynamic economy when compared to other Latin American countries. It has an excellent bank for your buck, and because of the coronavirus pandemic, the dollar has exploded to the upside letting you get a very significant discount when looking for property around the world and especially in Colombia.

Colombia has a tumultuous past but has overcome most of it. Colombia is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world (Not the fastest, that title belongs to India and China) and since it has been living in some sort of stability lately, it is a lot safer to visit and there are also many more opportunities to be found. Marcello has been based in Medellin, Colombia for the lastest years and has been able to witness how the city has transformed and become one of the big economic powerhouses of the country alongside its state, Antioquia, making them as important as Texas or California to the U.S. He has some investments and ongoing projects placed in the city and believes opportunities are there for everyone.

One of the great things about Medellin and its property value is that now that everybody thinks that it’s safe, there are a lot more people pouring into it, opening businesses, investing in Colombia. Also, tourism has increased significantly in Colombia, even though the coronavirus probably hurt that too, but it will recover and regain that soon. So it’s an opportunity you can’t miss since, as we already said, the strong dollar will make you get a property for 60%-70% the price of what the property is worth, due to the current amazing exchange rate, then the real state will continue to rise its value; according to the DIAN, which is like the Colombian IRS, the properties are valuating at 7% annually, but Marcello argues that the real value of a property is what someone is willing to pay for it, not what the organization says, so it can go really higher than that due to all the great characteristics of this growing region; and once the dollar goes back down when you bring back the money you will be able to make a fortune.

  • Recap October 18: Unemployment Down – 2nd Quarantine (Recap ep093)

In today’s recap, we talk about the overall rapid reduction of unemployment in the U.S. and a possible second quarantine due to a new wave of coronavirus infections.

U.S. unemployment still has a long way to go to return to the under 4% rate before the pandemic & resulting recession, but the overall rapid reduction to 7.9% last month is an average, uneven growth of jobs, is the rule across the country. The jobless rate has fallen to just 6.6%, in the so called conservative Red States, but remains at a much higher rate of 10.5%, in the more leftist Blue States.

A 2nd wave of the coronavirus sweeping Europe, with 100K new cases reported daily. Germany had its highest ever increase in confirmed cases over the past 24 hours, as France declared a public health state of emergency & Italy also surpassed its daily record for newly diagnosed cases, while a debate is taking place in the U.K. over a need for a nation-wide lockdown.
U.K. Prime Minister Johnson is threatening to go through Brexit without a deal, but this will create disruptions to trade at the end of the transition period of 2020, possibly shaving over $25B off the domestic economy in 2021, compared to a situation of a limited free trade deal, agreed upon with the E.U.
A rocket built by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ space company has tested technology designed to return humans to the Moon in 2024. The New Shepard booster, in development by Blue Origin, can land vertically on the ground & return from space. The rocket carries sensors, a computer & software designed to help space vehicles perform precision landings on other planetary bodies.
With 90% of middle class Venezuelan families falling into poverty over the past decade, professionals have turned to making food & face masks or selling cleaning products, as the coronavirus pandemic quarantine, further weakens an economy, already collapsing under a 6-year recession, with inflation galloping ahead at 3,000%.

  • Recap October 4: Lay offs are coming, Trump gets COVID, Subway Has Sugar Bread (Recap Ep091)

In this week’s recap we talk about forecasts on lay offs coming anytime soon, President Trump and Melania testing positive for COVID, and the Irish Supreme Court ruling that Subway’s bread does not qualify as bread.

American Airlines & United Airlines say they will begin to furlough a total 32K employees, after lawmakers failed to agree on a broad pandemic relief package, that includes more federal aid for airlines. Disney’s theme parks shut down globally & the company’s profit dropped a whopping 91% during Q1 of 2020. Now the firm is laying off 28K people in the U.S. as the pandemic hits its parks & resorts business, which employs 100K workers. The employee cuts will affect the Disney’s Parks, Experiences & Products unit. 67% of the employees laid off, will be part-time workers.
U.S. President Trump & First Lady Melania have both tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. U.S. futures markets immediately plunged near -2% across all major stock indices, with the Dow dropping over 500 points. It is likely there will be an effect on most global markets as well.
Ireland’s Supreme Court has ruled that the bread in Subway’s hot sandwiches at 10% contains far too much sugar to meet the legal definition for bread. Judgment handed down in response to a Subway franchisee who had appealed for a tax refund, arguing that its bread is a staple food & therefore subject to a 0% tax rate. Under Ireland’s Tax Act 1972, the sugar content should not exceed 2% of the weight of flour in the dough.
The U.S. economy suffered its sharpest contraction in at least 73 years in Q2 due to disruptions from the coronavirus. • Crisis 2020: Did the stock market bubble just pop?

Today we are talking about why the market crash and if the bubble has finally popped.

2020 has been a pretty crazy year; The pandemic, the hurricanes, and now the elections of the U.S. next president. A lot of Marcello’s followers have been asking about what happened to the market and why it is crashing, so that’s the reason for this video.

The recent passing of supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has spiced up things around the elections and created an uncertainty climate around them, especially if the elections get to the point of being like they did between Gore and Bush when the case went to the supreme court and the supreme court was who decided who the winner was.

This might create an uneven scenario in the U.S. political context since the “left” or the liberals might see their representation reduced when defending their ideas in front of the conservative party and that might end up unbalancing the decisions taken by the court.

This is only said as context. Marcello doesn’t like to take political subjects to the show but this particular situation is affecting the markets and how they will behave in the future.

The pandemic related lockdowns caused big damage to the global economy. Almost 60% of all small businesses had to close due to that situation. Also, the governments are creating a stimulus to push the economy back up but to do that, they are creating more and more debt. Almost reaching the point that would make that debt unpayable.

All of this is making the economic situation unstable and causing what looks like the market bubble finally popping.
