Declan is the founder and CEO of Eolas Medical, a company providing site-specific, AI-powered knowledge management tools for clinicians at the point of care.

Declan shares his journey from clinical practice to software development, driven by the recurring challenge clinicians face: accessing trusted, accurate, and institution-specific medical knowledge in real time during patient care. What began as a side project turned into a rapidly adopted platform, now used by over 500 hospitals and physician practices. 

Originally a text- and video-based knowledge management platform, Eolas evolved with the emergence of large language models (LLMs) .  Today, it offers agentic document extraction, combining generative AI, predictive analytics, and computer vision.

Unique feature: visual grounding allows clinicians to see exactly where an AI-generated answer came from within a guideline using bounding boxes - boosting trust and transparency.

Eolas Medical is developing an API that integrates with ambient scribe tools and EHRs, enabling real-time retrieval of internal and external guidelines during patient documentation.

The platform supports use cases ranging from emergency care to oncology and pediatrics, with a special emphasis on speed, accuracy, and adherence to local clinical guidelines.

Eolas is now focused on scaling in the U.S., emphasizing a bottom-up, department-first distribution strategy.  The company has strong ties to the Catalyst innovation hub in Belfast and is building bridges with innovation ecosystems like Nashville.

Declan sees the next wave of innovation after ambient documentation tools as AI-ready knowledge bases. He distinguishes Eolas from others by focusing on internal, institution-specific protocols, rather than general medical research.

Joan Butters is a co-founder and the CEO of Xsolis, the AI-driven health technology company with a human-centered approach. Joan co-founded Xsolis in 2013 to help shape intelligent decision-making for payers and providers. Under Joan’s leadership, Xsolis has served some of the largest and most reputable healthcare organizations, including Humana, Mayo Clinic, AdventHealth, Banner Health and Ardent Health. She has been featured in Becker's Health Review, Inc. Magazine, AiThority, and Health IT Analytics, among other national publications.   

Prior to founding Xsolis, Joan served as Vice President/General Manager of Strategy and Emerging Solutions at Optum, where she identified and developed new technology solutions which generated over $225M annually and provided services across the healthcare ecosystem.  

Zach Evans is the Chief Technology Officer with Xsolis, the AI-driven health technology company with a human-centered approach, where he is responsible for using Xsolis’ proprietary real-time predictive analytics and technology to support client objectives and internal business operations.

Zach previously held leadership roles at HCA Healthcare, Inc., the largest for-profit operator of hospitals in the United States. Most recently, he served as Assistant Vice President, Technology of Case Management and Performance Improvement, where he was responsible for using technology to achieve operational excellence, improve clinical workflows and augment quality outcomes. Prior to HCA, Zach served as Vice President of Strategic Development and Chief Information Officer at CareHere.

In a recent episode recorded in Nashville, I had the honor of interviewing Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton. Known not only for his remarkable achievements in figure skating but also for his dedication to impactful healthcare causes, Scott has channeled his champion spirit into the CARES Foundation. This foundation supports groundbreaking immunotherapy research for glioblastoma—a mission that holds personal significance for Scott and many families affected by this aggressive form of brain cancer.

Scott shared how the CARES Foundation’s upcoming event, Scott Hamilton & Friends, promises a blend of entertainment and philanthropy, gathering the Nashville community to fuel research that’s pushing the boundaries of cancer treatment. During our conversation, Scott passionately discussed how advanced technology is revolutionizing healthcare. With innovations in diagnostics and treatment, he envisions a future where patients benefit from personalized, more effective care. His journey—from the ice rink to the research lab—embodies resilience and a commitment to excellence, inspiring hope for the future of healthcare.

Scott and I discussed his early childhood, training for his future in figure skating, and life after the Gold Medal.  We’re fortunate to have Scott in the Nashville community and extremely fortunate that he gave us a small amount of his time, incredible energy, and focus on helping others through cancer research.
