One of the movies playing is a production from the National Film Board of Canada called "John Ware Reclaimed." It tells the story of the black cowboy and rancher in southern Alberta in the late 1800s and it also takes a long look at how the history of blacks in the west has been forgotten. Cheryl Foggo has been working on telling the story of John Ware for over a decade and this film is the realization of bringing John Ware's story to the film. The opening night for the Edmonton Film Fest will be an Alberta movie called "Jasmine Road" (also playing during the Calgary festival) and it portrays a relationship that develops between a widowed rancher and a Syrian family who come to settle in southern Alberta. September 20, 2020Calgary Musicians Hope to Have Music Fans RISE UPA dozen bands from southern Alberta are getting ready for a massive drive-in music festival on September 25, 26, and 27. The RISE UP Weekend will bring together a number of music organizations to hold concerts to help fundraise and keep their groups going through the pandemic such as the Calgary Folk Festival, ReggaeFest, the International Blues Festival and the Stampede. Tickets for the drive-in style concerts are available online from showpass.com. Acts like Jade Eagleson, the Groove Crew are just a couple of the groups playing, along with Blake Reid. September 13, 2020Running To RecoverShortly after the birth of Krystin Buffam’s son 4 years ago, she knew things weren’t right. She had stopped eating, was struggling with breast feeding, feeling she was a shell of her former self. Krystin voluntarily admitting herself to the psychiatric unit at the Women’s Mental Health Clinic at Foothills Hospital where she began a journey to recovery.
