Beyond the hype, what are the valuable Biblical truths which can be gleaned and applied from one of the most iconic and epic stories of our time?

Not only by the testimony of scripture, but because of our experience of living in this world in this hour, we can understand that resilience of soul must be sought after and in order to have it we need to plan for it. Paul's prayer for the Ephesian church is a great place to start, he is, essentially, asking God to give them resilience (Ephesians 3:14-19). So, we begin there, with our quest to pursue wholeheartedness and live from the depths of our being with God, rather than in the shallows of the world.

Jesus, in Luke 21, assures his followers that we can secure our souls during the most turbulent of times (21:19), and then he gives clear instruction on how-to. Resilience is found in where we are looking. There are three points of focus we should give our attention to in order to live with resilience.

There is a great volume of material in scripture to warn us of the world's drain on our soul. Before we consider the ways to replenish our soul with God, we take some time in this episode to discuss the threats.

As Jesus was teaching the disciples about the way the world would be during the final hours of the last days, he tells them a story of ten bridesmaids who are awaiting the coming of the bridegroom, and there were five wise bridesmaids and five foolish ones. The distinction? The wise had enough oil to keep their lamps burning, and this is the picture of resilience which Jesus is telling us we need to take very seriously in these days.
Many will give up and walk away. Why?
How can the righteous stay strong and true in such trying and desolate times?
We must pursue resilience, learning to keep our lives filled with God!

The promise Jesus had spoken of came, and this group of disciples would begin to turn the world upside down! As we consider the church's beginning we take notice of some valuable characteristics we need to pray to renew today.

The disciples return to Jerusalem and in these last verses of Acts 1 there are some gems of truth that can inspire us and motivate us to follow the example of these men and women who were ready to give all for their risen and ascended Lord!

After the ascension Jesus has returned to heaven, seated at the right hand of the Father, and Oh, what a difference it makes in these disciples! Why does this matter to us?

As we are awakened and alerted to the reality that we may not be as effective and dedicated to the Great Commission, we then have to sort out what we can do to become faithful and to encourage one another. It is a huge discussion which will require a lot of follow on among our fellowships, but we can start here!

This is the standing order from our Lord, to go, and preach, and baptize, and teach. It is what he prepared his disciples to do and it is what he still expects of us today. But how are we doing with this, as a church collective?
