Memorial of St. Maximilian Kolbe, 1894-1941; joined the Conventual Franciscans, and was ordained at 24; founded the Militia of the Immaculata, and the magazine, "Knight of the Immaculata"; in 1939, Fr. Kolbe was arrested by Nazis, but released only three months later; in 1941, Fr. Kolbe was arrested again, and sent to Auschwitz; a prisoner had escaped, and ten men were to die as punishment; Fr. Kolbe volunteered to take the place of a man with a wife and family; Fr. Kolbe was killed on the eve of the Assumption

Turn me over!”
