God loves songs of joy--songs of victory, songs of triumph, songs inspired by His very presence and power and seeing His wonders. God desires good for His children. He wants to fill the whole universe, all His creation with good, with joy and gladness, with peace and victory, with love and life. This is God's joy. You are God's joy. He wants to give you a new song. Let Him replace your worries, your fears, your cares with a new song today. What songs are you singing to praise Him and rejoice in the life that He has given you?

Peter laid out for us the progression for growing up, for maturing as adults. They are choices we make in behavior forming our character. From faith to goodness to knowledge, we apply our understanding and trust God to add and increase our capacity for goodness and more knowledge. It is in our search for more of God that we receive so much more – causing us to grow up into the persons God designed, and desires us to be.

The theme for today’s meditation is Living Our Identity: Lord, Make Me an Instrument of Your Peace, based on a prayer from St. Francis of Assisi.
Today be challenged to listen and meditate on the prayer from St. Francis of Assisi as we read through it more than once. With the first reading, listen with your heart’s ear for a phrase or word that stands out for you. With the second reading, reflecting on what touches you, saying it to yourself or writing in a journal. We invite you to listen again to this entire reading so that with the third time listening, consider responding with a prayer or expression of what you have experienced and ask God what this passage calls you to do or be. As the prayer is read a final time, rest in silence before God.

Memory is a precious tool. Our brains store thoughts and emotions for us to retrieve later. Through practice, we train our brains to retrieve these thoughts bringing to our consciousness for use. We take for granted we will remember all we have been taught, but without practice of retrieval and repetition we are likely to forget, to not remember. God tells us to ‘remember’ – who He is, what He has promised and who we are to Him. Practice remembering. Listen repeatedly to His truths about life, about us, and about Him.

How easily we identify ourselves by the roles we fill - mother, father, teacher, doctor, athlete, and so on. We easily speak of what we do. How easily can we speak of who we are? Have we looked in the mirror, and held our reflection long enough to see, really see who is there? Take a few extra seconds to look at yourself in the mirror and ask God to show you who He sees.

Understanding goes hand in hand with wisdom and knowledge. Each has a purpose and each supports the other. I love this saying from Proverbs: “People’s thoughts can be like a deep well, but someone with understanding can find the wisdom there.” Patience and self-control make room for comprehension to assess the challenges they we face every day. Taking time to reflect and wait for God, helps us learn better ways to respond and love others.

In Part 2, of this meditation on God's kingdom, we are reminded that His kingdom is not visible or subject to this world's dynamics of power. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. So,where are we experiencing and living in God’s kingdom? How can we experience and live in God’s Kingdom more? Perhaps, our perception of where we are needs to change. Father, grant us sight to see we are already there, already righteous, already given peace and joy. We only need to let You open our eyes to the Truth.

Proverbs 27:19 says, As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart. God advises us to be careful what we desire, cautions us to think and speak with honest hearts. Jesus told us, For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Mt 6:21). As you listen today, consider what do you treasure?

As we consider the familiar phrases of prayer for God's kingdom to come, let's consider as well, what it means to serve a King. What should our posture toward Him be, and are we truly aligned with His purposes for His kingdom?

Jesus said, "everyone who loves the truth will receive my words." We know that God's word is alive and we also know that words have life or death in them. As you hear this meditation, consider Jesus' words. Do we love truth? Are we unwavering in our seeking truth, listening to truth, in order to live with fidelity and freedom every day?
