Matt Reeves has clarified his statements about his Batman film, confirming that it is in the DCEU. We discuss that plus a new writer for Justice League Dark and the broadcast premiere of the Vixen animated movie.

Matt Reeves clarifies Batman comments on Twitter

Old interview was misinterpreted

“Just to be clear: Of COURSE Batman will be part of the D.C. Universe.  Batman will be BATMAN...In my comments from a while back about not being part of the DCEU, I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman...not about the others in the Universe.  That it wouldn't be filled with cameos servicing other stories -- that it would be a BATMAN story.”

Twitter question from @BobbyClaus1 - “Matt Reeves not using Affleck script could be that his script was connected to the DCEU and Reeves wants his Batman standalone?”

The Justice League Dark film might have a new writer - That Hashtag Show

Most recent draft is being worked on by Jon Spaihts (co-writer of Prometheus, Doctor Strange, and Passengers)

A standalone Joker film is in development. We discuss this news, the implications on the DCEU and the new DC movies banner on today's show.

A standalone Joker origin film is in development - Deadline

* To be directed by Todd Phillips (Old School, The Hangover Trilogy, War Dogs)

* Phillips and Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter) are already writing the script

* Phillips and Martin Scorsese will produce (Scorsese’s involvement is far from assured - The Hollywood Reporter)

* “The intention is to make a gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City that isn’t meant to feel like a DC movie as much as one of Scorsese’s films from that era, like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull or The King Of Comedy.”

* Twitter question from @JRBatman23 - “First thought, will this be one of their R rated movies they talked about?”

* Other questions - Batman, other Gotham characters?

* The Killing Joke or The Joker influence

Part 2 - film will be standalone/not be connected to DCEU

Will use a “dierent actor, possibly younger”

Jared Leto is expected to return for Suicide Squad 2 and Harley Quinn spinoff

Confusion from general audience?

Part 3 - New non-DCEU unnamed banner of DC movies

THR - “The new label would give Warners leeway to make more DC-oriented projects, unconstrained by continuity. “

Borys Kit added on Twitter - “The new label would allow for the making of all kinds of DC movies of different budgets and potentially time periods unconnected to...the main line of DC movies.”

Willem Dafoe talks about role of Nuidis Vulko in Justice League and Aquaman - (ScreenCrush)

Role in Justice League is basically a cameo, Aquaman is much bigger

He will be slightly different from comics - “There’s been some adjustments. Not even adjustments – it’s like anything, you use the source material and something is born from that. But I don’t really look like he does in the comic, and his role is slightly different. He is an advisor, but he’s also sort of a mentor to Aquaman.”

What filming was like: “Most of my scenes are underwater. Some are not. So much of it, because we’re talking, and shooting underwater is a lot of ways impractical because you’re limited to what you can do with sets. It’s more about shooting them dry for wet, and then the effects do certain things to give the water feel. But we aren’t doing the scenes underwater, but we are in harnesses and on wires. There is movement. It’s not like we’re all sitting around pretending we’re underwater like this [stands up still], we’re swimming around, we’re moving. So that should be really beautiful.”

Katee Sackhoff to appear in The Flash as villain Amunet Black, a.k.a Blacksmith - Entertainment Weekly

Character runs “the Network” -  an underground supervillain black market

Will first appear in S04E05 “Girls Night Out” featuring Emily Bett Rickards

Twitter question from @condor_zelander - “Could the Aquaman movie begin with the origins of Atlanna?”

Exposition given by Vulko/Tom Curry?

Similar to Hippolyta?

Tom Cavanagh talks about Season 4’s Harrison Wells on The Flash - (Comic Book Resources)

Will start with Earth-2 Harry and then introduce a different Wells later

The Wells they use each season is based on what the show needs (HR was for a darker season)

Interesting point on Reverse Flash - “Well, here’s what’s nice: so, my starting point is always the Reverse Flash. Correct? And so the Flash needs an antagonist, and — on Superman — you’re always going to find a way to get to Lex Luthor, and so we’re sort of in that same situation, where I’m the Reverse Flash, he’s the Flash and there’s going to be a way to get to Reverse Flash but you can’t do that every season or every episode, right? So, in the meantime, we’ve got this one guy, Wells, and then from that Earth, that guy Wells, and then that guy Wells and that guy Wells and that guy Wells — there’s lots of Wells!”

Twitter question from @condor_zelander  -  “Thoughts on this first look of Willem Dafoe as Vulko?”

Funko Pop

Looks like Atlantean Armour

Casey Affleck talks about brother Ben as Batman - WEEI Radio

Casey Affleck - “I thought he was an OK Batman. No, he was great. He was great. He’s a hero, so he had something to channel and work with there. But he’s not going to do that movie [The Batman], I don’t think. Sorry to say.”

"Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know,"

Ben Affleck talks how Batman will be more traditional in Justice League  - Entertainment Weekly

It’s different for Batman to reach out for help and see if the team will come together

“He was holding on to a lot of anger, in a little bit of an irrational way. Whereas this is a much more traditional Batman. He’s heroic. He does things in his own way, but he wants to save people, help people.”

“I think it’s a really cool story. Actually, it’s sort of a story about multilateralism. It’s not a bad theme to have!”
