Box Office Pro has released their first box office tracking for Wonder Woman and it looks very positive. We discuss this plus the upcoming Batman & Bill documentary, Scalped, and talk about the potential plot of The Batman.

Wonder Woman long-range box office tracking - Box Office Pro

Domestic predictions - $83 million opening weekend, $225 million total

Pros - It’s Wonder Woman, good buzz; Cons - previous DCEU reception, less chatter than Suicide Squad

Would be #5 solo film debut for a superhero all-time (chart on Box Office Mojo) and 2nd lowest budget of those films, #1 debut for WB/DC

Would be 5x stronger than any previous female led superhero film (Catwoman), 3.5x V for Vendetta, 15x Supergirl

Box Office Pro’s previous DCEU forecasts - Man of Steel ($108 million, actual $116 million) Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($154 million, actual $166 million, Suicide Squad ($98 million, actual $133 million)

Hulu’s Bill Finger documentary Batman & Bill set to premiere Sunday, May 6

Synopsis - “Everyone thinks that Bob Kane created Batman, but that’s not the whole truth. One author makes it his crusade to seek justice for Bill Finger, a struggling writer who was the key figure in creating the iconic superhero, from concept to costume to the very character we all know and love. Bruce Wayne may be Batman’s secret identity, but his creator was always a true mystery. Directed and executive produced by Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce.”

On today's podcast, we talk director Patty Jenkins' thoughts on the upcoming Wonder Woman film, Season 3 of Legends of Tomorrow, Injustice 2, and answer a Twitter question about the Aquaman film.

Director Patty Jenkins interviewed about Wonder Woman - Empire Online

Was very pleased with casting of Gal Gadot

Had freedom with origin story, because it was 100 years before

Wanted some fun and color in the film to make it classic adventure, like Superman: The Movie and Indiana Jones

On why Ares -  “He's the biggest villain of Wonder Woman's World. I think if you're going to start off big, and start off right, you go with the greatest villain. I also think it was a great delight to place him in the world in a way where he believes in exactly what a real, true Ares does, and what kind of havoc would an Ares wreak on this planet and how?”

Tried to not focus on pressure of making a successful female superhero movie and just make a good superhero film

Tried to go back to William Moulton Marston’s original vision for the character

*Spoilers* Arthur Darvill will return as Rip Hunter in Season 3 of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow - TVLine

EP Marc Guggenheim - “We’ve got plans for Rip for next year. It’s just in a different capacity than him being a member of the team.”

On today's podcast, we talk news on Shazam!, Batman and Harley Quinn, Preacher, and Injustice 2.

Rumored Shazam! Director David F. Sandberg on type of movie he’d like to make - Crave Online

* “Everyone thinks, Warner Bros. [equals] superheroes, Harry Potter, LEGO. Does that appeal to you or do you want to do your own thing?

* I’d like to do a superhero movie.

* What sort of superhero movie?

* Something that would be a little bit more fun.

* Brighter?

* Yeah, like you know, I think the best Marvel movie for example is Guardians of the Galaxy.

* Something that’s kinda wacky…

* Yeah, but still grounded in reality.”

Batman & Harley Quinn animated movie details - Empire Online

Melissa Rauch (Big Bang Theory) will voice Harley, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Loren Lester as Nightwing

“this is an original story featuring the reluctant team-up of Batman, Nightwing and Harley Quinn to try and stop a global catastrophe caused by Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue, AKA the Plant-Master.”

"So many fans have asked when there will be another Batman: The Animated Series, and this film really captures that sensibility and essence that people loved about the original series. That makes perfect sense when you know Bruce Timm was at the helm of both. The difference is we're not restricted by the networks for this film, so we can take the story and characters in more mature areas, and explore more about them as three-dimensional human beings with human feelings and human desires that we often couldn’t explore in the series."
