Episode 76 of the Meet the Locals podcast features an hour long groover from relative newcomer to the Washington DC electronic music community, Dastan:

"This mix was put together with the idea of truly meeting me and sharing the sounds that have helped shape my taste and what I think is a great sound that DC is embracing more and more. I went through a journey that begins really flirtatious and steady, and grows into a bit wilder of a ride, and ultimately landing you down in a sweet and warm place. There is a ton of middle eastern and oriental influence in it, which roots from my own family. The kind of sounds that you can't help but move a bit to, I think are very important in bringing the soul out in music, and I'm happy to highlight them here. I did a lot of traveling in the last few years and picked all of these artists and their songs from as far and wide as possible, while maintaining a central motif of curiosity and fun loving. At the end of it all, it came down to a core feeling that I hope you find in this mix. I'll be playing in DC this March at ESL on the 19th for my monthly B2B with local DJ Erica Marcantonio, and hosting a full Saturday party at El Techo on the 16th which is always a ton of fun...though keep an eye on my social media, there might be some surprise announcements!"

Something very special for episode #75 of the Meet the Locals Podcast, a two hour mix from one of the hardest working members of Washington DC's electronic music community, DJ, Producer & U Street Music Hall owner, @willeastman. To celebrate the launch of his second album Breathe this Friday, Will recorded this two hour mix delving into his inspirations for the album. Be prepared, this one is quite a journey, capturing the broad sonic range you'll hear across the eight tracks of Breathe.

"While I was working on this album, my mother died and I faced a huge wall of family health issues. It hit me like a brick at the same time the United States started experiencing a political and cultural tsunami. Things are not ok in my homeland and it would be foolish to pretend they are. This album reflects that tension in its 8 tracks, from opioid addiction to our collective inability to tackle huge issues like mental health treatment and climate change. I put everything I have musically within me into this album,” says Eastman, “and the experience inspired me to share a deeper musical connection with my fans from Hilo, and to reconnect with people from all aspects of my life and tell these stories through music. Personally, I’ve been on a transformative journey this past year and a half during the making of this album, overcoming struggles and putting the new life experience I documented in Hilo to good use. I’m in overdrive."

Breathe is available from Will's Bandcamp page https://willeastman.bandcamp.com/ and all the usual outlets from Friday February 8, and you can celebrate the launch at U Street Music Hall on March 16, with sets from Will, Ken Lazee & Ozker.

Been a while since our last Meet the Locals Podcast. What are you all waiting for? Send those mixes to [email protected]! Episode #74 of the Meet the Locals Podcast features a quality 2+ hour house music journey from DC local Nocturnal Wax:

"The original sound I wanted to focus on was jazzy/funky house but after having my trusty Tascam recorder run out of juice during the first try, I decided to switch things up a bit. What followed was an uninterrupted two hour session with music purely selected in the moment, starting off nice and easy with some house then gradually diving into deeper sounds. In the words of DJ Bobby: No BS, just one take. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Kevin Pons, Kenny M, Shawn Travolta, markintheDark, and everyone who has listened to and supported my radio shows - Studio 96 and The Electrified Broadcast. Without them, I wouldn't be where I'm at today.

Many thanks to Andy for giving me a chance to share my sounds with the DCHG community. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!"

Recently discovered in my basement on an unlabeled MiniDisc inside the pictured MiniDisc player, this mix features an all vinyl set (because it was the only option) by Andy Grant, recorded some time around the year 2000. Need to get figuring out those track IDs!

My favorite thing is shutting out the world and getting deep, going back to back to back with my fellow DC House Grooves Show residents Ramirez & Katrina Mir. We're always turning up the heat, pushing each other to take things to the next level, and you never know where we're going to end up. And sometimes I hit the record button without telling anyone :) This session was recorded at DC House Grooves HQ on Friday September 28. Five and a half hours of quality, underground grooves from across the house music spectrum.

The next DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio with me (Andy Grant), Ramirez and Katrina Mir is on Saturday October 6 at 10pm ET: https://www.facebook.com/events/319393682179365/

Then, you can catch me and Ramirez at Beats Manuever with Jephté Guillaume Live at 1230 in Washington DC on Sunday October 7: https://www.facebook.com/events/293199721408134/

Episode #73 of Meet the Locals features a hour of quality after hours groovers from a regular on the local underground scene, Reflections & Blueprint founder Jandro:

"This mix is driven by what happens when the club lights come on and its closing time; where do we go from here, who's playing and what's playing? In my case I'm looking for deep grooves, rolling bass lines, raw kicks and organic sounds oddly placed within the set. This 12 track spread is a glimpse into said after hours vibe. This sound has always peaked my curiosity and I'm now find myself wanting to play it more often, hence the resurgence of BlueprintDC. Blueprint provides the stage where I can really push the boundaries with this sound which is something I really want to focus on moving forward. "

You can catch Jandro next on August 31 at Blueprint at Jimmy Valentine's Lonely Hearts Club spinning an all-vinyl minimal set alongside Arthur Kimskii: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1807552792615379
