Can't believe we're up to episode 62 of the Meet the Locals podcast, but here we are. This quality one hour journey through the underground comes to us courtesy of a recent arrival in DC's dance music community, co-owner of Weelhouse records, DJ Eli Cash. DJ's take note: this is the type of mix we love here at DC House Grooves!

"The mix kind of plays like a mixtape because the style switches up a bit throughout, sometimes more abruptly than others. I don't really care about maintaining the illusion of a perfect set, and I kind of like for my sets to sound like a collage. I dig from a loose web of rougher house music, ranging from L.I.E.S. stuff to unreleased tracks by my online friends who I'll probably never meet IRL. The internet is wild. I do honestly find most of this music on Soundcloud in one way or another, which is where I seem to have the best luck finding fresh material. One last note: The first track is from UD Alta's latest @Weelhous release, a label I co-run with my friend Huestro. Enjoy!"

Keep an eye out for DJ Eli Cash; I'm sure he'll be showing up in events featured in DC House Grooves Top Picks on the regular!

Episode 61 features a quality hour long session from Baltimore's Nathan Gorey: "For this mix I wanted to start us off with a deep, percussive, near-the-equator sort of vibe and build up the energy from there. I brought tracks that all have elements I love—eclectic percussion, bass lines with a lot of swing and movement, and sounds that make you imagine you're dancing deep in the jungle or in the desert as the sun's going down. There are a few lighter sections sprinkled throughout with some lighter vocal lines to latch onto as the tempo builds. The November installment of Obsidian's Housework party is November 18. Every month our collective Obsidian throws an all-night, two room party that is all underground house, techno, and tech house in the main room, and things like downtempo, liquid DnB, and chiller house in the back room. November's Housework is also the after party for Re:Imagine's Throwback 3 party at Bambou earlier that night. If you're in the Baltimore area, come party with us! We go until 5 am every third Saturday of the month at Factory 17 (1722 N Charles St, Baltimore, MD."

We've been looking forward to this one for a while now: Episode #58 of the Meet the Locals Podcast by one half of enigmatic duo Pacific Fur Company features over two hours of quality sounds from across the electronic music spectrum. DJs take note: this is what we want to hear at DC House Grooves! Proper musical journeys lasting more than 60 minutes, taking us places we don't expect while keeping that vibe strong. Over to the man himself for a few words about the mix:

"I wanted to bring in a variety of textures and styles - there’s some ambient, acid, breakbeat, house, electro, vocal, and so on. I’m actually not so great about keeping one style on the sound system in general. It’s always seemed strange when there is an expectation of what you are supposed to be playing out, and if you don’t meet that expectation then the music you play isn’t worth consideration or participation. That model seems to be based purely on club economics, and it makes the music a pretty boring piece of the picture. Diversity in the scene, not just among the people involved but in the sound being broadcasted, has always been important to me - hope you enjoy. "

You can catch Pacific Fur Company on Friday September 9 at Airshow Mastering & Recording in Takoma Park alongside Lobby Floor, Protect U and James CC (https://www.facebook.com/events/1431374663566147/), then at October Daytime Blowout MegaMixx, and early Oct. daytime party in Washignton DC. Details coming soon.

One of my own mixes for episode #55 of the Meet the Locals Podcast. It's been forever since I've recorded a studio mix, and since I'm heading out on a road trip this weekend, I wanted some of my new stuff to listen to on the road. This all vinyl mix features mostly new cuts not available on digital from artists including Ada Kaleh, Traumer, Varhat, Janeret, Joey Anderson, Adam Strömstedt, Octo Octa, Lowris, Molly, Hostom, Dixia Sirong, The Black Pony Orchestra, Patrice Scott, The Funky Green Dogs from Outer Space and Terrence Parker, taking you on a two hour journey through a range of vibes. You may find some tracks challenging and inaccessible at first, but stick with it and you will be rewarded :) You can catch me with Katrina Mir and DJ Ramirez on the DC House Grooves show on DJ Jus-Ed's Underground Quality Radio, every two weeks on Saturday nights at 10pm. Check the UQ Radio page for the full schedule: http://bit.ly/UQSchedule.
