The stunning debut from thriller writer Lloyd Otis.
When a woman's body is found, a special team is called in to investigate, and prime suspect Alex Troy is arrested for the murder. Desperate to remain a free man, Troy protests his innocence but refuses to use his alibi. Trying to protect the woman he loves becomes a dangerous game - questions are asked, and suspicions deepen.
When the prime suspect completes a daring escape from custody, DI Breck and DS Kearns begin the hunt. Breck wants out of the force while Kearns has her own agenda and seeks revenge - and a right-wing march provides an explosive backdrop to their hunt for Troy.
Lloyd Otis brings a startling account of the past back to life over a burgeoning '70s landscape and delivers a thrilling piece of crime fiction that will excite any fan of the genre.
Members Reviews:
A good debut from Lloyd I would definitely take a look at what he does next.
This is the second crime book I have read very recently set in the 1970âs â there is a certain charm and simplicity that I really enjoy. None of the swish technology and communication services we expect these days, just pure hard graft from the coppers.
Set in grimy London, gives it a gritty feel, add in murder, conspiracy, racial tensions and nosy neighbours and you get the makings of a gripping crime thriller.
I enjoyed the atmospheric content, the role of a female police officer in those days was completely unlike present day. The possibility of identity theft, basic clues which need unravelling. The inclusion of the officerâs family life .. all add to the story. DI Breck and DS Kearns each have their own way of doing things, not sure I really liked either of them as âpeopleâ but connected on a professional basis admiring their work.
I like the authors approach, the writing style ticks over and the reader isnât really able to draw many conclusions, itâs a race against time to keep the streets safe.
Dead Lands is a place of judgement on so many levels, quite eerie to think not much has changed in the intervening years because in some respects it could be set today. A good debut from Lloyd I would definitely take a look at what he does next.
My thanks to the author, publisher for my copy and Abby for inviting me on to the tour. I read and reviewed voluntarily.
