Entering into second inning, we go into the Eighties for two modern classics in their genres. That we hadn’t reviewed these two films before the 9th season is remarkable. The Ump discovers the twist ending (and somehow avoids spoiling) on Friday the 13th (1980). The Vamp arrives at the Field of Dreams (1989) to mourn the loss of James Earl Jones.
The theme to “Dead On The Bases” is a mix of Kevin McLeod’s “Ballgame” and “Halls of the Undead” from the YouTube Music Library.
DEAD ON THE BASES: One horror movie fan and one sports fan will get together to review movies assigned by their partner. So the UMPIRE will watch a horror film and the VAMPIRE will watch a sports film. What you get is DEAD ON THE BASES!

It’s probably a foregone conclusion but what a matchup of titans! In one corner, we have the coming of age baseball classic, The Sandlot (1993). On the other end of the diamond, we have Clive Barker’s exciting entry into horror cinema, Hellraiser (1987). The real suspense is…will the Ump even be able to finish viewing such a frightening film? Let’s find out and let’s get ready to rummmmmble!

This season continues to pack surprises like those little plastic toys they used to mix in with your Waffelos. This week both of the boys pull out some big weapons with the wonder dog Cujo (1983) taking on Rocky (1976). Think about it…in a bare knuckles fight…who would win??? Let’s get ready for the discussion.

The Ump staged a huge inning last round, so now we enter this quarter with anyone’s game. The Vamp is introduced to a new sport, BASEketball (1998), this inning and the Ump is put on Quarantine (2008). Can the Ump rally? Or will the Vamp come back from last inning?

After a prolonged break, we return with the boys with the Ump begging for help…broken and bleeding in a pit of despair. Now the Vamp, who isn’t much for physical exertion, can rain down upon him with fists and evil death as his corpse twitches in a puddle of his pus.

In shocking turn of events, the Ump liked a legitimately scary film. Up is down. Right is left. The world is Topsy/Turvy and Who is on First! Because this week, the boys take on an Abbott & Costello Double Feature. The Ump reviews one of the quintessential horror/comedies in Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) while the Vamp plays with an earlier Bud & Lou effort, Here Come the Co-Eds (1945).

A commanding lead is still enjoyed by the Vamp, but the scrappy Ump is starting to chip away at the daunting deficit. This could be a week when tables turn as the Ump serves up a sports comedy (the Vamp’s soft spot) with Up the Creek (1984) while the Vamp slaps the Ump with a family film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). That’s exactly the type of film to give the Ump a hard on, if you know what I mean. Can this turn the tables or will the Vamp’s winning ways continue?
