There is no way I wouldn't come back to this show this week and present this wonderful second set. Of course this is from December 12th, 1990 at McNichols Arena in Denver Colorado. While it takes a few verses for the boys to catch on fire, once they do they roll on through a 2 hour set full of passion and energy that makes this one of the best shows of a very good year. They start with a nice China ->Rider that rolls into a really pretty Looks Like Rain.. Hornsby adds some wonderful touches here. Somewhat surprisingly, Iko follows, but that perhaps is not as surprising as the Dark Star that crashes from it. This one is pretty well formed, and a real treat to listen to throughout. The band rolls into a nice Terrapin Station following, and gives its audience a bit of a break as it winds into drums and space. Jerry, Bob and Phil give the Watchtower that follows its dark streak then Garcia provides a wonderful Stella Blue. I won't attempt to describe it.. just listen.
They come out with an excellent Throwing Stones->Not Fade Away to close the set. The Weight that follows has long been one of my favorite encores when done well, and this was I think was.
I hope you enjoy this week's Deadpod.
